How Not To Introduce Your Characters #23

Luprand says: I think maybe one person ever did a good job of
introducing a character purely for diversity reasons,
and that was Charles Schultz adding Franklin to the
cast of "Peanuts." Even on TV, you can usually spot
the person who's only there to be black, gay, nerdy,
what-have-you. After a while, the stereotype runs dry
and if you're lucky, you never see the character
again. If you're not lucky, the writer just tacks on
another stereotype.
