Being turned into your favourite anime hero, as tempting, doesn't happen in real life, and while it might've worked in some comics we've seen, there's a line after which every idea can no longer be repeated in a good manner.
Here, it's happening so fast that you actually have no time to get to know characters before. So why making them average students at all? Unless if you want an excuse to ripp on somebody else's characters.
